Well, many of you may have wondered about the lack of new music being posted to the website. Nothing has been posted recently because I have been busy with a huge project that was just completed last week.
In June, I was approached by Ben Ice to write music for the children’s program he helped create called Truth Trackers. Truth Trackers is a program designed to help churches disciple their children and families. One of the ways they help disciple the children is through an extensive memory verse program. Truth Trackers provides a memory program which gives Bible answers to life questions. The children are divided into two sections. The younger kids are called the Scripture Spies and the older kids the Faith Force. They spend 30 weeks memorizing Biblical answers to questions about Bible doctrines. Here is an example of a memory section (the 1st verse is for the Scripture Spies and the 2nd verse for the Faith Force):
Week 1, God is One.
How many gods exist?
Isaiah 45:5 “I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me . . .”
Do Christians worship more than one God?
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD. And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
Ben asked me to take next year’s curriculum and set the 30 weeks of Scripture question and answers to music to help the kids learn the passages easier. I enlisted the help of my friend, Jonathan Jarrett, and began the process of writing 60 different tunes to match the memory verses. At first the task seemed very daunting. Sixty songs is a lot of different tunes. As I proceeded through the project though, I found I really enjoyed being creative and liked setting the texts. I still have some of the different tunes running through my head. Here is an example of one of the songs I wrote:
I’m so thankful for this opportunity to help this wonderful ministry. My prayer is that these tunes I’ve written will just be a vehicle to allow the Word of God to sink deeply into the hearts of children and their families.
